The FFF Conclave will be in Loveland, CO at the Embassy Suites July 29-Aug 1. Over 100 fly tyers will be showcasing their patterns and skills in an unparalleled opportunity to sit down with the tyer and learn new tying techniques and patterns. All realms of fly tying will be represented - including coldwater, warm and salt water, classic salmon patterns, etc. Notable Colorado locals will include Charley Craven from Charley's Fly Box in Englewood, and Brad and Tyler Befus from the western slope.

A huge array of other topics will receive attention at the Conclave, which represents the premier fly fishing educational opportunity available. Plan to attend!

Nice to hear about the Conclave. Hope everything goes well.

However, Charlie Craven and Charlie's Flybox http://charliesflyboxinc.com/ are in ARVADA, not Englewood. I've been there.

Tight Lines...

Michael

Right you are. It's been too long since I grew up in Westminster. Can't keep my suburbs straight. But, bet I can drive to Charley's Fly Box.

Charley showed some nifty moves on tying Humpies. Not sure if it's on his website, but bet it's in his book. Great way to end up with wings right length every time.

FFF Conclave was paradise for a flytier! Some 30 tiers were going full gear at any time/well over 100 tied in all. An unbelievable opportunity to pick up new flies, new techniques, some tricks...! Only glitch was when the field immediately east of the hotel had not been planted in grass as we had been led to expect. As a result, the fly casting venues had to be moved to a school in Loveland. That will have to change for FFF to consider returning to Loveland.

If you ever have a chance to see Matt Matsushita tie, don't miss it. His meticulous attention to detail is amazing, and the resulting flies are second to none.

Sorry to report that Matt Matsushita, referenced prior, was killed in a one car crach near Salt Lake City, as he headed home from the FFF Conclave. Truly a loss to the fraternity of serious fly tiers.

There are a number of excellent fly tying expos around the West each year - Washington FFF puts one on, as does Oregon FFF. The Cutthroat Fly Fishers have an outstanding expo in Idaho Falls, which I've heard referred to as "the best fly tying show in the world"! Strong praise, but I've not yet been able to attend that. Somerset, Mass has a big international fly tying show each winter that has to be great.
