This is a small pond in Prospect Park, off 44th Avenue in Wheat Ridge. I read later that it contains bass and bluegills, so it's no wonder my trout flies weren't working, but at least it was a chance to get on the water. Or in this case, in the water. I keep a pair of rubber boots in my car, but they're short, so I can't wade very far, but I can get into eight or ten inches of water at least, and that's often enough to get clear of the majolrity of the bankside vegetation. Not completely of course, I did catch a tree at one point, but it was good to get in some casting practice and feel the sunshine.

How about West Lake? The same park, different place. Tried something called a "panfish popper" but it was hard to cast. Got nothing on that, so I changed to a black wooly bugger, but still nothing. Course, it was the middle of the day, but still nice to be out in the sun..

fished drys for 'gills for a few hours at pella crossing (in Hygeine, near Longmont) today. i couldn't tell you how many i released...of course all very, very, small, but it is good practice for casting and hook setting for dries. it is good practice for hook setting mostly because if you don't set the hook early enough, you end up digging out the (barbless, of course) with your hemostats...lol.
